Within our initiative MALASA|3R| and in line with the growing climate problem that we all face, at Grupo Malasa we are going to install, before the end of 2022, 3,367 solar panels between our central offices and factories, Fresno Metal, Fresno Cristal and the logistics center.
This installation will mean that 23% of our manufacturing electricity consumption will come from 100% renewable solar energy. This means that we will avoid emitting 561 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, which is the same as planting 3,360 trees.
This measure joins our biomass boiler, which has allowed us to take advantage of 50% of the waste from our activity that was not recyclable and prevent it from ending up in a landfill. This measure has increased our percentage of material reuse by more than 90%, has reduced our CO2 emissions by 369.9 tons per year, and has allowed us to acclimatize our offices, power our lacquering train, as well as two lacquering booths with clean energy.
This initiative has been endorsed and approved by the School of Forestry Engineering of the University of Vigo, as well as recognized and awarded by public institutions such as the Xunta de Galicia, the Galician Energy Institute Agency (INEGA), the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Government of Spain and the European Fund for Regional Development of the European Union.
